Explore the landscapes of South Dakota with author and ecologist W. Carter Johnson, Ph.D.

He is a co-author of "Ecology of Dakota Landscapes: Past, Present, and Future." The book examines the natural and human forces that have shaped our state's ecosystems.

Johnson joined In the Moment to explain how South Dakota's various landscapes came to be, including why West River looks so different from East River.

Johnson is a distinguished professor emeritus of ecology at South Dakota State University.
