A South Dakota organization is chosen to announce a peace message to space.
This week’s meeting was a special one for the Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary Club.
Members learned Monday they and other Rotarian clubs around the world are tasked with generating a message of message of peace to be sent to the moon.
Mike Costanzo read the proclamation from the organization.
"As Rotarians, we stand united in our commitment to peace, friendship, and understanding among all people. Today, we extend our hands in fellowship to every corner of the universe, from the city blocks of downtown Sioux Falls, to the vastness of the lunar surface, let us remember that we are all interconnected, bond by our shared humanity and a desire for a better world,” said Costanzo.
The message will be sent by a SpaceX rocket.
The organization, which usually meets at the downtown Sioux Falls Hampton Inn, met at the Military Heritage Alliance Building to consider the location for future events. Brian Phellps is the Executive Director of the facility. He said the event center is open to all veterans and their family.
“We’ve got a family center, so as we were coming out of Covid, families wanted to get together. The military organizations wanted to track young members, bring the families, the kids. We put in a family center and watch this week as we are announcing some things up in our family center,” said Phellps.
He said the alliance building also offers family entertainment centers, a movie theater, meeting rooms, a bar, and an indoor shooting range.
The cost of renting the event center is put toward a veteran organization.
