The Sanford Underground Research Facility, or SURF, is hosting the 17th annual Neutrino Day in Lead on Saturday.
The citywide festival includes science activities, cultural performances and talks with SURF scientists and engineers.
Neutrino Day events take place across Lead. Organizers say the best way to start the day is by visiting the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center. A full schedule of events is available at SURF's website.
This year features performances from Professor Sko and Amber Sky Aerial, as well as live music at Čhaŋgléška Wakȟáŋ by both the Wake Singers and Starr Chief Eagle. Organizers are also hosting an underground livestream from the DUNE caverns and an open-panel discussion with SURF physicists.
Hands-on science activities include the University of Colorado’s Little Shop of Physics. South Dakota Mines will also be present with their homemade liquid nitrogen ice cream and other STEM activities including the university’s Museum of Geology.
In addition, SDPB's In the Moment is holding a live broadcast Friday at noon Central/ 11 a.m. Mountain time featuring interviews with some of the scientists taking part in research at the lab.
