O’Gorman senior Taten Mauney is your 2025 ‘AA’ boys state golf champion. He shot two-under par at the state tournament at Meadowbrook in Rapid City this week to claim the individual title.

It was a five-stroke victory for Mauney. Braxton Hollan of Sioux Falls Lincoln and Tyson Lunn of Brookings each shot three-over par in the event tied for second.

“I’m happy how I finished, happy how I played, and I feel accomplished for sure,” exclaimed Mauney. “It was good. Felt good to be done with it. I was definitely feeling some pressure, a lot of nerves, but I overcame it and I was good.”

Last year, Mauney finished tied for fourth at the state tournament. The year prior he finished runner-up. With one final shot at a title, he got the job done as a senior.

“Having to put two solid rounds together and having to get the job done,” he said. “I’d say it hasn’t set in totally yet.”

Mauney spent his final season soaking in all the moments.

“There’s obviously the main points on the course of hitting good shots, but I’d say connecting with my team more than in years past,” Mauney told. “Building better relationships with my teammates and really having a good last year.”

As one final nod to his prep career in golf, there were a few ‘thanks’ to give out, including one to the game he loves.

“Big thanks to my parents, my older brother Rad for always being an inspiration, and the game of golf,” he stated. “I really appreciate the game and everything it’s done for me in my life.”

Taten's older brother Radley is currently a golfer in college for the Creighton Bluejays
