Avian (Bird) Flu

State Veterinarian Dr. Beth Thompson says it doesn’t appear the bird flu is spreading from flock to flock.

An outbreak of avian influenza has been detected in Faulk County at a commercial turkey operation. This is the first confirmed case in South Dakota since May.

In the past 30 days, two states have detected the bird flu in commercial flocks: Arizona and South Dakota. Though Arizona is dealing with much higher numbers, officials in South Dakota say they’re keeping a close eye on the situation at home.
