Story TimeStory Time introduces your child to the incredible world of language and books through stories, songs, and activities. This program is designed to help prepare your child for successful school experiences using early literacy components and is a great opportunity for your child to develop social skills and make friends. Topics and themes change each program. Story time generally lasts 30 minutes and no registration required. Deadwood History, Inc. (DHI) hosts a family friendly event on Tuesday afternoons during the summer. On June 3, enjoy Old West Bingo – Deadwood’s spin on traditional Bingo with a western theme and prizes. Young explorers, get ready to dig, discover, and uncover the mysteries of the past with DHI’s Digging Up the Past on June 10, 17, and 24.Dig into the past like an archaeologist, sifting through an ancient midden to uncover hidden treasures from Deadwood’s history. Then, grab our tools and become a paleontologist, searching for dinosaur bones – just like the experts. Join us at Deadwood Outlaw Square from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. for these exciting, free events!

Join Black Hills National Forest and BHPFA for a series of nature programs! Programs could involve hiking up to 2 miles on uneven terrain. Please come prepared with layers, closed-toed hiking shoes or boots, sun protection, water & snacks.
Celebrate National Trails Day and learn how to interpret the sounds of nature while you hike! Have you ever wondered how to tell if a hawk or coyote is near, or when a deer is quietly slipping away, just by listening to the sounds of nature? On this hike, participants will learn how to tune into animals’ communication systems to understand what’s happening around them—even when the creatures are out of sight

Calling all young creators. Students in grades 1–3 will spend a fun-filled week discovering inventors and their groundbreaking creations. Participants will become inventors themselves – designing, building, and testing their own amazing inventions. Through hands-on experiments and teamwork, campers will learn to bring everyday items to life in exciting new ways. Days of ’76 Museum; 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; $50 for members and $55 for non-members. Space is limited and reservations are required. Scholarships are available.
