Take a journey through more than a thousand years of SD history. From our state’s beginnings through contemporary times, Dakota Pathways: A History brings the stories of South Dakota’s people and places to life.
PBS LearningMedia offers FREE educational resources for PreK–12 educators and students. Our goal is to enhance educator practice and student learning.
We offer a wide range of educational content, from Oceti Sakowin: The People of the Seven Council Fires to documentaries such as Lost Bird of Wounded Knee. You will find engaging educational resources on this site.
A World War II story collection that follows the theme of “What was it like for you?” These WWII stories were shared with us, and we are honored to share them with you.

Example Resource from Corresponding Website

During this activity, your students will learn about the sinking of the Steamboat North Alabama on the Missouri River in 1870. They will also create a tape resist art piece using positive and negative space.
The government is divided into branches, each with separate, independent powers and responsibilities. They serve as checks and balances to each other.
A winter count is a pictographic record of historical/memorable events for a tiospaye (community). Many Plains Indians used the winter count to preserve history. Significant events are recorded for future generations.
Every year, the folks at Aberdeen's Convention and Visitor's Bureau gather to assemble hundreds of pheasant salad sandwiches, similar to those from World War II.
