Dakota Pathways

The Homefront

Take an exciting journey through more than a thousand years of South Dakota history with this Emmy Award-winning twenty-episode series. From our state’s ancient beginnings through contemporary times, Dakota Pathways: A History brings the stories of South Dakota’s people and places to life.

The Homefront During every war in which the citizens of our state participated, there were those who went to war and those who stayed home. Those who stayed behind contributed to the defense of our country in their own special ways. Some worked in manufacturing plants producing armaments and ammunition; some continued to till the land and produce food for the troops. Children even participated by having newspaper and scrap metal drives. This episode looks at how our citizens participated in our nation's war efforts "on the home front."
