Rep. Johnson Votes Against Impeachment Inquiry

South Dakota’s lone representative in the US House voted against an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.

The inquiry centers on whether Trump improperly pressed Ukraine to conduct investigations that would help him politically.

Republican Dusty Johnson says he voted against the impeachment resolution because “the process it established doesn’t provide the transparency and fairness we need.”

The resolution authorizes the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee to conduct open hearings and allows the president and his attorneys to cross-examine witnesses.

Johnson says it concentrates power in the hands of California Democrat Representative Adam Schiff. Johnson says Schiff is given a veto over Republican efforts to call witnesses and subpoena records.

Johnson says a tainted impeachment process does not better the nation.
